A powerful earthquake shook the Philippines.

 

A strong earthquake shook the Philippines. Its magnitude was 7.3 on the Richter scale.   The earthquake hit the northern part of the country at 8:43 am local time on Wednesday (July 27).  Although there was some damage, casualties could not be immediately confirmed. No tsunami warning has been issued. AP news.  The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the 7.3-magnitude earthquake had its origin in the mountainous region of Abra province and was centered at a depth of 25 kilometers below the surface.  However, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the earthquake was 7 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was 10 kilometers deep. In addition to the Philippines, its impact has also been felt in Japan, Taiwan and China.    Several aftershocks were felt after the earthquake hit the Philippines. But Filipino authorities warned of further aftershocks and damage.  Local officials said that the strong earthquake caused cracks in several buildings.  Its impact was also felt in the capital city of Manila, 400 kilometers away from its source. When the houses shook, the residents rushed out into the streets.  The Philippines is located in the Pacific earthquake-prone 'Ring of Fire' region. Which in Bengali means 'ball of fire'. The 'Ring of Fire' is an imaginary horseshoe-shaped belt encircling mainly the Pacific Ocean. It is believed to be the cause of 90 percent of earthquakes.
