The people of this region have honored the brave freedom fighter, Tukhor student leader Shahid Khan, son of Bakerganj. He fought for proper education throughout his life. I saw from childhood that he faced everything with great courage. Always told the truth. That's why so many people love him.

Md. Aminul Islam Khan, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said these words at the unveiling ceremony of the foundation plaque of student leader Shahid Khan Technical School and College, which will be built on three and a half acres of land in Bakerganj of Barisal district on Thursday, July 28 at 2 pm.

He also said that his father, the late Shahid Khan was a role model for our siblings. During his lifetime, he served in politics with integrity. Because of that, even after his departure, he is remembered by many people in the southern region. The senior secretary said that the successful statesman Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken groundbreaking steps in education. Modern and practical measures have been taken so that the impact of the damage is not observed in the education system even if the losses during the Corona period cannot be recovered. Currently, we are trying to provide better education to children in keeping with the modern world. He said that various development projects are under implementation in Bakerganj as part of the development plan of the Honorable Prime Minister. We will enjoy the benefits from generation to generation. Earlier, he inaugurated the bridge built over Tulatali River and the 19 km road from Bakerganj port to Gobindpur Bazar known as DC Road named after Shaheed Khan.

The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of Barisal University. Md Chadekul Arefin, Divisional Commissioner Md. Amin Ul Ahsan, Range DIG SM Aktaruzzaman, Additional Divisional Commissioner Khandaker Anwar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider, Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Chairman Professor Mohammad Yunus, Superintendent of Police Md Maruf Hossain, District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Talukdar Mohammad Yunus, BM College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Golam Kibria, Central Jubo League Senior Joint General Secretary Biswas Matiur Rahman Badsha, Upazila Chairman Alhaj Shamsul Alam Chunnu, Upazila Executive Officer Sajal Chandra Sheel, Government Commissioner Bhumi Abujar Md. Ijazul Haque, Municipal Mayor Lokman Hossain Dakua, Garuria UP Chairman Alhaj SM Qayyum Khan along with senior officials of various levels of administration, teachers, and social, political, and cultural workers were present. Shahid Khan was the undisputed shaper of student politics in the southern region in the eighties. Shahid Khan was born in Dingarhat village of Barisal's Bakerganj Upazila in 1958. After August 15, 1975, he played a heroic role in reorganizing the Chhatra League and Awami League and suffered torture and imprisonment by the military government. With his enviable organizational skills, cheerful personality, and strong memory, he gained popularity as a beloved personality of all, irrespective of party affiliation. Under his leadership, the Bangladesh Chhatra League single-handedly won the student parliament elections held in all educational institutions in the southern region from 1979.

 In the 1981 government Brajmohan College elections, he got the highest votes from the Nanak-Hid panel and was elected as the general secretary. He led the Chhatra Sangam Parishad in the anti-dictatorship democracy restoration movement of the 1990s. People of the entire region still remember him with respect and love. He is still followed by the young society and people as an honest, dedicated, and exemplary leader of politics. This leader of potential masses died at the age of 46 due to an incurable disease. An educational institution, a bridge, and a road have been named after him as part of various initiatives to make the history of this great man unforgettable to the next generation.
